A MUSEUM QUALITY PIECE OF 18TH CENTURY AMERICAN WROUGHT IRON LIGHTING. ONE OF THE VERY Best Wrought Iron "ALPINE" Style Candleholders. American or English, early 18th century, circa 1700-1730 WITH AN EXTREMELY RARE DOUBLE SPRING CANDLE HOLDER. The ABSOLUTE BEST form. A VERY RARE DOUBLE SPRING HELD CANDLE HOLDER WITH FANTASTIC PIG TAIL TWISTED IRON DECORATIVE ELEMENTS THROUGHOUT. Wonderful FLATTENED penny feet and a nice large rolled bottom pan. The surface is great, untouched, uncleaned old quality and patina with lots of old stove black throughout. Great tool marks. These rare candleholders rarely come onto the market. They are candleholders not rush holders. The design and form is similar to a rush holder but these are meant to hold candles. We have only seen a few of the double holders in over 30 years. For a similar example and further details see "ANTIQUE BRASS CANDLESTICKS 1450-1750" by John Robert Grove, page 115, item 147 also shown in the last photo. This is a very important piece of early 18th century wrought iron lighting. This candleholder is 10 3/4" tall, the base is 10 3/4" long by 4 1/2" wide. Typical wear and imperfections with age as described above. Low starting Price and NO reserve.
