Offered is a lot of 2 vintage bank checks from the Dueber-Hampden Watch Company in Canton, Ohio , both signed by company founder John C. Dueber . One bank check is in the amount of $25 from the First National Bank of Canton, Ohio; the other check is in the amount of $5 from the George D. Harter Bank in Canton, Ohio. One check is dated March 1, 1900; the other is dated September 5 with no year indicated. Each check displays a two cent revenue stamp from the series of 1898. Both checks have an elaborate engraved vignette of a human hand grasping Father Time and his scythe, representing, no doubt, that the Dueber-Hampden Watch Company has the ability to capture time! Excerpted from /histories/hampden.html John C. Dueber had been manufacturing watch cases since 1864 and bought controlling interest in a case company in about 1886. At about this time an anti-trust law was passed and the watch case manufacturers formed a boycott against Dueber. In order to remain in business, Dueber bought the Hampden Watch Co. in Springfield in 1888, then moved it to Canton. By 1890, the company was producing 600 watches a day, had 1000 employees, and possessed net assets of $2,600,000.
