1908 WASHINGTON FRANKLIN 344 SCHERMACK with CONTROL PERFIN 12 Hole experimentalOpen 12 Hole square pattern Perfin Catalog # Pattern Des 91-1, the user is unknown. It is believed this was the first control pattern that Schermack experimented with before settling on the 9 hole enclosed square pattern. Theory is that the Schermack Company continued to use this machine in their New York office, though no cover has been found to prove that.Two other listings on Ebay for this same stamp are asking over $120 & $275 !!Vending & Affixing machine stamps were used in the early 1900s by the high volume mailers of the day. In late 1909, while trying to enter the New York market, the Schermack Mailing Machine Company added a perfin feature to some of their affixing machines to identify the owner for added security.
