Cook's Guide to Peking, North China South Manchuria Korea, 1920. This auction is for the fourth edition of "Peking, North China, South Manchuria and Korea with maps, plans and illustrations. It was published by Thos. Cook & Son, London, in 1920. It has 161 pages of text, 25 pages of adverts ., 3 folding maps and many photographs. The maps are Cook's Railway and Steamship Map covering North China, Chosen and Japan (see photo), Cook's Skeleton Map of Peking, and Cook's Map of Keijyo (Seoul). As shown in the photo, the first map has some damage including a hole about 6 cms. in length. The other maps are fine. The adverts include several for railways (including a double page illustrated advert for the Chinese Government Railways and full-page adverts. for the South Manchuria Railway, the Shanghai-Hangchow-Ningpo Railway, the Tientsin-Pukow Railway, the Shanghai-Nanking Railway and the Peking-Mukden line of the Chinese Government Railways. There are full-page adverts. for several hotels, such as the Astor, Grand hotel Kalee and Palace Hotels at Shanghai and the Grand Hotel de Pekin and the Grant Hotel des Wagons-Lits, Peking. This is a rare and much sought-after book and gives a far more comprehensive coverage of the area than any other publication by Thos.
