Offered is a nice 1920 New Orleans Conception Vargas Alfonso Wax Black Doll Cotton Seller. Mrs. Conception Vargas Alfonso was the daughter of world-renowned turn-of-the-century New Orleans Spanish sculptor, Francisco Vargas. From 1915 through the 1930s, Mrs. Vargas Alphonso crafted a variety of wax dolls inspired by the black folk she saw on New Orleans street corners while growing up. They were sold exclusively through Harriet's in the New Orleans French quarter. Her dolls are highly sought after in the Black collectible arena. The doll measures 6-1/2 inches high, including its wood stand. It is in sound condition. The doll's wax hat is also included. Parts of the brim have been broken off but the pieces are all there so I could be fixed. Buyer pays $4 USPS First Class shipping.
