This German Model 1884/98 Bayonet is in excellent condition. The bayonet was made to fit the Kar 98k (K98) and the Kar 98A2.It is a very heavy bayonet with sturdy design and composition (bakelite) grips.Blade is in beautiful condition. Clean machined metal and still has the factory unsharpened blade edge (t is a machined square edge that runs along the base of the blade).Grips are clean and in great condition with flathead screws that can be removed to reveal original oils/grease/cosmoline and stamps in the bakelite and metal. The blade is stamped with "P.WEYERSBERG" on one side and "9710" on the other side. Paul Weyersberg was the manufacturer. The top of the blade is stamped for a "40" for 1940.The butt of the handle is also stamped with a "6645".The scabbard is stamped with "P.WEYERSBERG" and "1940" below that. The other side is stamped with "2217" and an "a" below that. The release mechanism works great. The blade fits snuggly into the scabbard.T are numerous Waffenamt (or is it Waffenampt ?) stamps. One on the ball of the scabbard. One on the button. One on the top of the handle. Two near the butt of the handle. And two on the inside of the grips. The Waffenamt reads "WaA253".T is a considerable amount of the bluing left on the bayonet and scabbard although it is faded/worn.Overall, this is a great addition to any collection.
