It's my pleasure to offer at auction an Extremely Nice 1946-1948 HEDDON NO.850 "JIM HEDDON'S FAVORITE" 6 FT., ONE-PIECE SPLIT BAMBOO CASTING ROD WITH DETACHABLE HANDLE & ORIGINAL LABELED BAG. First offered by James Heddon's Sons in 1933, the No.850 would sell through 1952 and would be recommended for tournament casting throughout Heddon's catalogs. This example was likely built as soon as Heddon resumed bamboo production, from about 1946 to 1948. Although it carries the later post-war rodshaft markings, its components are all pre-war, suggesting it was one of the first produced after the war ended. By 1949, the handle would be completely redesigned. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1942/43 catalog. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten "Heddon" in straightline along one flat, "Jim Heddon's Favorite" along another and "#850 - 6' - M" along a third, with the "M" standing for Medium action. Reel seat is correctly stamped with the simple "PAT." marking. Built with quality browntone Tonkin cane and comes equipped with detachable handle, nicely swelled butt, hardened chrome guides & tip top, high-grade ferrule, screw-locking "Hold-Tite" reel seat with attached trigger, solid cork tournament grip & foregrip and wound in maroon silk tipped in green. Rod is in Very Fine condition for these, showing only light to moderate read more
