1971 Gem Uncirculated Silver 20 Balboa Original Roll This is an originally wrapped Uncirculated Roll of 10 coins that weigh over 4oz Each This coin is in near PERFECT Proof condition! This coin is virtually perfect with no spots or hazy surfaces - still sealed in plastic Over 40oz of Sterling - This was the largest legal tender coin in the world in 1971 This Coin commerates the 150th anniversary of independence for Central America from Spain ! The obverse of the coin features: The bust of Simon Bolivar – The reverse features: The Panamanian coat of arms. There is a listed mintage of 69,000 coins minted - actually minted at the Franklin mint for Panama. Although many of these coins were spent or have spots and stains do to the inferior packaging they were issued in. this coin was tucked away for years in (PVC Free) inert packaging materials. The coin is 37.9mm and .900 fine silver. Many of these have been melted for silver especially in 1980 when silver hit $48 the first time. (Very Popular Design) THE FRANKLIN MINT STORY- (The Franklin Mint was one of the first private mints to make legal tender for foreign countries "1965-1995") These coins were minted at the Franklin Mint during its heyday, the Franklin Mint produced some of the finest condition coins ever minted anywhere in the world, even today. They had their pick of the finest retired Former Mint employee's : Artists, Sculptures, Engravers, Designers and photographers of the day from all around the world (1966-1980). They hired only the best of the best and turned them loose on their individual creativity from coin designs to intricate Medal collection design series, produced by the Franklin Mint at the time. This was probably the absolute peak of coin production for quality and design using the traditional coining methods used until the mid 1980's (the golden years of coining). They produced coins in four different finishes: (but not always all the time on each coin or medal series): Uncirculated (Bank issue coins meant to be circulated) usually the largest mintage, Specimen Uncirculated (Brilliant Mirrored Coin on both sides) Usually a very small mintage, Matte Uncirculated - This finish is an ultra-uncirculated coin (with intense thick luster but nearly perfect - with a sandblast look) Usually very small mintages and Proof Uncirculated coins (Brilliant proof backgrounds with Frosted Cameo devices "the Ultimate look") The most desired by collectors but sometimes the highest mintages. Low Mintage World coins like these: are a bargain in today's market - If this were a U.S. coin with the same mintage 69,000 for Example: a 1952 Proof Half Dollar with 81,980 currently lists for $250 only in Proof-65. This is for a coin that only weighs a half oz of silver. If they were coins that weighed over 4oz. each they would be worth thousands of dollars today!
