Under Marshall�s leadership, the English practice of each Justice writing his own opinion was replaced with the Court�s speaking with one majority voice, a practice that remains to the present day. Mintage: Maximum 400,000 pcs Grade: PROOF - in original US Mint box with COA Obverse: Released on May 4, 2005, this coin commemorated the 250th anniversary of the Chief Justice's birth on September 24, 1755. This coin pays tribute to Chief Justice John Marshall's service to the Supreme Court and to our Nation. The coin features a rendition of a portrait of the Chief Justice, which was originally executed by French painter Charles-Balthazar-Julien Fevret de Saint-Memin in March 1808. The coin is inscribed: Chief Justice United States Supreme Court 1801-1835, John Marshall, Liberty, 2005, and In God We Trust. Reverse: The reverse of the coin features a view of the Old Supreme Court Chamber, located inside the Capitol. Construction on the original chamber, designed and built by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, began in November 1806. In February 1819, John Marshall, presided over one of the first cases held in the chamber. Surcharges from the sale of each coin supports historical research, educational programs and the collection and preservation of antiques, artifacts and other historical items related to the Supreme Court and the Constitution of the United States.
