XLC Kimport Stockinet Soviet UnionRussian Russia Cloth 5 10" 1930s Vint USSR CCCP Europe European in ColectrBks In the late 1920s and early 1930s a series of wonderfully made all cloth stockinette dolls was made representing the peoples of the newly formed Soviet Union (The USSR: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics -- what they abbreviated as CCCP in the Cyrillic alphabet.) There are several lovely series of cloth dolls from this period in the Soviet Union. This doll is from a set of eight stockinette dolls (that I know of) and I tend to call this group them the “sweet face” girls. They are all adorable and always make me smile. I am selling five from the series of eight today. They are duplicates in my collection. I will happily ship up to five of the girls for the cost of shipping one. Please see my other auctions. Three of them are shown in a picture from a website for collectors: /Russian-Doll-Collector-Two.html (see pic) They are extremely collectable today, but they are often only found in pretty tough shape. They are shown in several doll collector books. There is a picture of my complete set shown here. They are featured in some doll books and websites, and they are shown in the 1930s-early 1940s (pre WWII) catalogs of the Kimport Doll Company of Independence, MO. They were a well-known importer of foreign / national dolls. Some were described to have been obtained at Russian pavilions at a World’s Fair. The Kimport catalogs show a group of three and a group of two in different years. They are named Olga, Tatiana, Anna, Sonia, Katia, Vera, Neva and one more who is not described there. 1938- 1941 “Foreign Folk Dolls” catalogs of the well-known importer of ethic dolls “Kimport Dolls of Independence MO.” This particular doll is Olga, and she is shown here on the left in the picture of three of the girls in the Kimport catalog. (More pictures and description will follow shortly) Others in the series are shown in other collector books, like Polly and Pam Judd’s European Dolls, and The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Cloth Dolls by Johanna Gast Anderton 164 and here. She represents the Morva / Mordwa / Mordvia Region. I have attached a picture of some girls in this kind of headgear. doll's body and costume are in near mint condition. Like all her "sisters" she has an extraordinarily sweet expression; her face is stockinette with nicely contoured facial features, with beautifully painted bright blue eyes and red smile. They just don't make 'em like this any more! She is all cloth. Her hands have thumbs plus fingers indicated with creasing. She can easily be made to sit or to stand (with a doll stand.) Her legs are nicely contoured with a slightly bent knee -- not just stuffed tubes (see picture.) She has cream-colored knee-high stockings . Her shoes are black cotton with faux leather soles. Condition: Near mint except for the a bit of fading of the bottom of her skirt IN BACK ONLY! No rips, tears, dirt, smells. Her face is darker than some of the others, but it is apparently from age, not dirt ... other light cloth is nice and clean. The face also has a slightly lighter tip of her nose. Her face and hands are is otherwise intact and lovely. This one is a real gem for a collector … Shipping is $6.85 in the US and Canada .
