The Ferrari 290MM which led to the 315mm was one of the last font engine V12 sports/racing Ferraris. As the "MM" implies the car was originally intended for the Mille Miglia. It did well in that event, winning in 1956 in the hands of Eugenio Castellotti and its larger engine development the 315 provided Piero Taruffi with his long sought Mille Miglia win in 1957. The change to a 3 litre limit for sports cars in 1958 marked the virtual end of the big V12 front engine cars. I got to see one of these cars run in a USRRC race at Watkins Glen in 1964 and despite its age the V12 screamed around the track for the full distance among the Chaparrals and other modern cars. In the end the venerable warrior recorded 6th place in the over 2 litre class and, of course, sounded incredibly good in the process. I built this model several years ago. It has a PTEG body from Bruce Paterson on a chassis of some sort. Sorry to be so vague but I just don't know what it is. The motor is a double ender that is in a fairly flat configuration. I am assuming it's a model railroad based motor of some sort. It definitely runs very well. The car accelerates quite briskly and the anodized aluminum chassis seems to work well. The wheels and tires are Monogram as are the wheel inserts. The livery does not represent any particular driver. It's certainly something read more
