I am presenting you with what I consider to be a real odd-ball item in my collection. This American Flyer No. 350 Royal Blue 4-6-0 Steam Locomotive mated with a No.356 Silver Bullet Tender. How they came to be like this is a result of years of picking up spare parts from various sources along with items of rolling stock and locomotives to form up an American Flyer collection. One day, years ago, I realized that I had enough spare parts on hand (a stripped, empty 350 shell, mechanism, reversing block, side rods, lead and pilot wheels to actually make up a running, repainted No. 350) The empty 350 shell from which this engine was built up was obtained by me in an already stripped condition. I repainted it in proper Royal Blue color, and began a search for a suitable tender. I never did locate a 350 tender, but DID pick up a No. 356 Silver Bullet Tender. It was my intention to eventually strip this tender, and repaint it to match the engine, and apply reproduction decals to the set. But this never happened in that I just could NOT bring myself to strip the tender of its original finish. I have not run this engine in many years, but it was in working condition the last time I had a track set up. The main rods on the engine are not an exact match to original, but they DID fit, and work freely. The engine still needs a proper wiring disconnect read more
