Similar examples to this form can be seen in numerous reference books on the subject of period illumination and interior country furnishings.As you can see the blacksmith who made this piece created the form by creating a cicrcular socket shape in a 'beehive' curled pattern. Also note the great twist design on the shaft and the top hanging hook.Take a moment to Some slight pitting associative of age, though overall very good+ condition.
