The company was founded by Samuel Hoffman, Brother-in-law to J. Chein of Chein Toys. Mohawk toys only operated from 1919 to 1921. Hoffman took over Chein in 1926 after Julius Chein died in a Horse Riding accident .This Taxi is made of lithographed tin, and has images of the driver, a woman, and her daughter in the car along the sides. The side doors are marked "Checker Taxi". The rear of the car has "Mohawk Toys: inside the spare tire, and license plate marked "05-316.There is a fixed wind key on the front of the car, and when wound the taxi will drive forwards very fast. The front wheels are set to drive at a large right turn circle, however there is a slot that cane the axle could be adjusted as to let it drive straight (would require removing the wheel).This rare Wind Up Taxi is in very good condition for its age and rarity.
