~*~Hello and thank you for looking~ ~*~Simply wonderful ~*~ this stunning textile is an 18th century blue, Vichy check bed curtain . It dates from the mid to late 1700's. ~Vichy is an area of Paris that produced this gorgeous fabric , that became known as Vichy check ~ This textile was found in the loft of a large 17th century house in central France and is a wonderful textile find. Faded to perfection~ this panel has faded unevenly with time where it would have been exposed to sunlight. As with the other pieces found in this collection, the magic of this textile are the many wonderful hand stitched darns and hand stitched seams and mends, every inch holds a new discovery!! ~*~ . The fabric is a light weight woven cotton. Indigo blue would have been used to dye the threads before weaving. This textile has a hand stitched seam that runs along the top and the back of the top has a hand woven linen trim. One of the ties is still intact on the top corner ( photograph 9) this textile has a 19th century machine stitched seam that runs along the left edge, as it would have been reused at a later date. My guess is that it started its life as a bed curtain and was later used as a window curtain as the back is more faded than the front. This textile is made by piecing together lengths of the wonderful Vichy and they are all hand stitched read more
