Oyster Plate, Delicate SeaweedWispy, delicate seaweed accents this antique French Limoges oyster plate by Haviland & Co. The 5 wells are rounded with raised garland borders. The exterior is scalloped and ridged with 5 gilded indentions. Just inside the border is a fine gilded line that follows the contours of the edge. On the back of the plate is "H & Co." over "France" in underglaze green. This mark dates the plate to the period 1888-1896, according to "Haviland China" by Nora Travis. In addition, there is in red, "Imported by Weichel & Millar, Scranton, Pa." and "Haviland & Co. Limoges."The mold for this oyster plate is shown on page 79 of the book "Oyster Plates" by Jim and Vivian Karsnitz. The diameter of the plate is 9 inches.
