This charming Antique Victorian Bisque Porcelain Nodder Nodding Gentleman with Cane dates I believe to around 1880. I believe the Nodder to be Continental, possibly German, although the only marking that I can find is to the underneath and is a handpainted number "16". The Nodder has lovely detail and measures approximately 7 inches high by approximately 4.5 inches across. It weighs approximately 274 grams. The pin to the neck appears original and the head nods very well on the body. There are a number of cracks to the Nodder-a crack and area of damage around the bow, collar and chest area which has been repaired, a crack to the right boot, and to the reverse a crack under the arm. There is a firing crack to the left hand side of the head near the edge of the hair. However, I feel that all of these can be forgiven due to the nature and age of the material. This will make a lovely addition to any Nodder collection.
