You are bidding on an ornate Silverplate Dome Cover Butter Dish with knife and china plate insert, believed to be circa 1900. In spite of its obvious age, this item is in very good conditions with no dents. missing ornamentation, or scratches and came from an estate auction. The dish is marked James W. Tufts, Quadruple Plate, Boston, Warrented, with a capital T in a circle encircled by 4 compass points. Also marked with "2047." The knife is not original to the set but is just as ornate and fits the butter knife holder. Marked "Wm. Rogers & Son AA." The plate is a replacement for the original clear glass insert and is round china with fluted petals decorated with cobalt blue, reminiscent of "flow blue" decorations. The dome is engraved with what looks like strawberry leaves and ferns. The dish is 8 inches wide from handle to handle and stands approximately 7 inches high. The butter area is 4 3/4 inches wide. Knife is approximately 7 1/2 inches long with the blade 1" at the widest point. The pieces were left tarnished in order to photograph with a minimum of glare, but the lucky winner will received a HAND-POLISHED set.
