ANTIQUE LARGE Solid Silver SUGAR CASTER 1911 Hallmarked Chester Sterling NR STUNNING BALUSTER DESIGN - 5 3/4 troy oz. - Birmingham This is a stunning ANTIQUE large solid sterling silver sugar caster or sifter that was made in Birmingham, England in 1911 by the illustrious Victorian silversmiths, Joseph and Richard Griffin at their Hockley Street workshops. It is in a stunning circular baluster shape and is raised on a high stepped pedestal base and has a shaped finial to the lovely pierced and domed lid. It stands 7 5/8" tall and is about 2 5/8" in diameter. It is very substantial - it is loaded and the ensemble weighs 179.1 grams - over 5 3/4 troy oz. It is in very good condition with much less than the usual surface scratching and NO splits, only a few dings but NO dents and little distortion and compression to the base - the top is still a very good fit - SUPERB. It is hallmarked with J&RG, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark), three sheaves, L showing that it was hallmarked in Chester in 1911.
