A lot of levels that I buy are in very poor display condition. I enjoy returning them to respectability in hopes that other collectors might enjoy them. I have restored over 285 levels, and perfected the process as you can see by my feedback. See restoration list below. This auction is for a Stratton No. 1 level with the following information. The level measures 30 - inches long by 3 & 1/4- inches high by 1 & 1/4 âe" inch wide. It has three patents - 1872, 1887, & 1888. You can read about these dates on page 75 of Don Rosebrookâe(tm)s book, âeoeAmerican Levels and Their Makersâe The level is very heavy (5 lbs) and dark triple stock Rosewood. T is some RED grain that really makes it nice. T w some gouges that I was not able to sand away. I used my own concoction and tried to make them blend into the wood but they are still slightly visible. You should be able to see a couple on one or two of the pictures. They are complete smooth to the touch. T are just a couple of nicks to the brass that you can also see in the pictures. The horizontal vial was broken during shipping. I was able to replace it with a vial from a Type 1 Stanley level. The vial is exactly the length and width of the original. The Eagle stamp, Stratton logo, and Patent Dates are in excellent condition. The only real negative is that the ends w were so pitted read more
