ANTIQUE, AUTHENTIC AND USED VERY ARCHAIC *** TRIBAL ANCESTOR VOTIVE SHRINE FIGURE *** TOP ITEM *** from West Nepal, Jajarkot or Jumla Area. These great archaic Figures have been used by the tribal village population of still extremely remote West Nepal for worshipping their ancestors and local deities. These kinds of local beliefs are deep related to the local shamanistic traditions. Many of the figures and sculptures also protect against evil influences and negative forces like demons, illness, travel dangers and more. The figures have been placed inside or beside the local village temples or shrines, in some cases at bridges, beside local mountain paths or fountains. This very well carved sculpture consists of medium reddish brown hardwood and depicts a great sitting stylized male figure . It shows a great archaic expression with enigmatic head and fine stylized face , wearing a cap and the arms are joined in praying gesture. The surface shows a wonderful darkened and smooth glossy patina which originates from ritual use and worship. The bottom also shows some abasion due to age.
