For auction is a Mantua Astrolabe wood ship kit. Model # 773. This is a large kit, its scale is 1:50 Length is 44 inches, Height is 38 inches. This unstarted kit is an older version of the current kit and the box shows a little shelf wear with tape closures. It is single plank-on-bulkhead construction typical of Mantua . The kit is for Intermediate level builders and contains everything necessary to complete the model. Note that unlike the newer kits, this kit does not include laser cut parts and is much more like a scratch-built model with some diecut wooden parts. The materials, however are of a higher quality than the newer kits. It contains precut wood bulkheads, planking, masts, many brass fittings such as mast feet, trim, rudder hinges, bells, eyebolts, rings, etc. Five large sheets of plans explain in a step by step manner how to complete this model.
