A stunning Augarten piece depicting horse and rider in the dressage movement "Piaffe". The piece measures approximately 9.75 inches high and is in beautiful condition (no chips, cracks, or scratches) with the exception of one broken piece. Unfortunately, the rider's left stirrup strap is missing from mid-boot to stirrup top. Although this flaw is not easily noticed upon casual viewing, it is definitely a flaw and I want the bidder to be aware. For this reason, I have carefully taken photos of the Left boot area (picture 11 in the gallery) and the right boot area (picture 12 in the gallery) so you can see the break. Other than that, the piece is perfect. The rider has a light moustache and is dressed in dark coat with gold buttons and a dark hat with gold trim. The jacket is split in the back and the flow of the jacket tails is part of the beauty of this piece. The oval base has gold painted rims, and has 2 inscriptions. One side reads "Hofburg Wien" and the other reads "Piaffe - Spanische Reitschule". Hallmarked (base) by "Augarten Wien Austria" with Augarten blue shield/crown mark. Number "8" and number 1590 are inscribed on the base. T is also a "made in Austria H" inscription on the bottom of the base. My father-in-law (deceased) traveled frequently to Europe on business and I believe he purchased this piece while in Vienna read more
