One of a Kind Stone Effigy PipeNot sure of full HistoryBought from Collector's EstateREDUCED 55%! from OLP!This is a beyond rare Stone effigy pipe resembling pipes from the Georgian or Mississippian Cultures of the Pre Columbian American Mound Builders. I just do not know for sure who made it or when. Could be an older Cherokee pipe as well, as I was informed by Archaeologist that they carved some somewhat similar to this. In either case, it is not a modern item.Carved from a solid piece of stone in the form of reclining (most likely dead) warrior. The figure is shown laying flat with arms straight at his sides and a trophy head on his neck. The single braid of hair & head cap is a common design feature of the mound builder's carvings & art. There are a number of leaves carved around the effigy and some other carvings, which makes one wonder about a burial motif & the scented leaves were for burial. Or, maybe he was a tobacco farmer?I found a somewhat similar styled sculpture that was identified as 1000 AD Georgian, complete with two heads around a warrior's neck. I found even more photos of objects from the mound builder cultures (in sales, collections and museums) with the styling and dress of this stone pipe.
