Manny Georgeson is famous for spending much of his time at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver studying the traditional masks of his ancestors. This deeply hand carved full sized yellow cedar Sun mask is Manny's interpretation of an early 20th century kwakiutl mask in the museum's collection. His attention to traditional detail is fully on view , please view the photos closely to observe the highly detailed fine line carving both on the face as well as the rays. Manny has adorned this mask with traditional golden cedar bark braiding and traditional acrylic paint colours. Manny Georgeson was born in 1961 in the remote community of Church House in British Columbia, Canada. This area is representative of the Kwakiutl Nation, a tribe that inhabits the southern and central coast of British Columbia. Born to a Haida mother and a Kwakiutl father, he has been given the Grizzly Bear as his family crest. Manny has apprenticed under master carver, Dwayne Simeon who is also a member of the same nation that specializes in mask and jewelry carving.
