ScarceChild'sBlue AestheticTransferware Creamer STAG Charles Allerton & SonsStaffordshire, England c. 1890 This is an exquisite miniature child's transferware cream pitcher or milk jug , circa 1890. Originally part of a complete child's teaset, though often used as part of a demitasse or espresso set, the octagonal jug stands 3 1/4" tall with a square applied handle. It is transfer printed in a bright and cheery sky blue. The pitcher features a noble stag or deer standing in a meadow surrounded by mountains. This beautiful scene is framed by an aesthetic background of flowers, ferns, scrolls, a sailboat and a smattering of geometrical whimsies that wrap around the perimeter of the pitcher, leaving very little white space. The jug was made by Charles Allerton & Sons, a pottery manufacturer in the Staffordshire region of England who was well known for his whimsical children's tea sets. The pattern is known as "Stag". The piece is marked "Staffordshire England". The pattern is commonly associated with Allerton's pattern number 750. The jug is in good condition, with a shallow glaze chip on the rim as shown in the photos. No other chips, cracks or repairs. T is underglaze kiln dust and a glaze wrinkles, manufacturing imperfections that are original to the making, adding to the authenticity and the naive charm. Miniature aesthetic transferware
