All photos can be enlarged by clicking on them . Chinese Antique Rustic Simple Small Low Kang Table / Tea Table This table is called "Kang table" because it was put on top of a "Kang". Kang is a Chinese word, it means a brick built day bed (usually about waist height). Under the Kang t is usually a small space w one can put logs inside for burning which in turn to warm up the Kang in winter. A Kang is a form of "in floor" heating, similar to that of the early Roman bath houses. Everyone would gather on the Kang to get warm and sip tea around the little Kang table, one might remove the table and lay sleeping mats on the warm Kang. Kang can be found in northern china, Shanxi, Shangdong area (very cold area) last photo shows the Kang with a Kang table on top of it.
