I am listing a small, but important collection of Civil War items, letters, diary, carved pipe (must see). These items belonged to Reuben C. Norton. He was from Rockford Illinois. He enlisted on Aug 1,1861 as a Sergeant in the 44th Illinois. He was promoted to 1st Lieut on Apr 19,1862. He resigned on Jan 25, 1863. He reinlisted on Mar 23 1864 as a Private. He was promoted to Hospital Steward on Sept 15 1864. Discharged at Camp Irwin Texas Sept 25, 1865.Reuben was born on Feb 15,1838 in Bridgewater Mich ,he stood 5'6". During the war he was wounded at least 3 times. He fought in many battles. This is a nice photo of the last group of survivors of the Battle of Franklin. Rueben is in the middle back row. The back of the photo has the following written on it " The Carter house as it was during the Battle of Franklin Nov 1st 1864. This picture shows the rear of the house. The front is of brick facing Franklin Pike. The house was in the center of the fighting. This picture was taken Sept 20th 1913. Grandpa Norton in center of back row." Image is 3 1/2" X 4 3/4". Good luck bidders
