EARLY NATIVE ICE FISHING BASKET SLED WITH FISHING GEAR This is one of the most unusual finds I've ever come across. Up for auction is this amazing native basket (100+ years old) which was converted to a ice fishing sled probably sixty years ago. This collection contains the basket (Unusually wide wooden strips) covered in animal hide, a leather hook case, and sticks with red flags. (As far as I can figure the sticks were pushed in the snow, and the little red flags let the fisherman know when his line had a bite. Some of the fishing "poles" are primitively numbered. The sled runners are metal, and the amount of wiring, belts, buckets, string, lead weights, and ties are eccentrically wonderful. The basket alone measures 22" x 12" x 12" (15.5" with runners) The hook case measures 18.5" x 12" open. The wooden poles range in measurement from 18"-22" long. The bobbin-reels measure 1.5"-2". I admit, I am totally out of my element and welcome any info from the ebay community on this amazing piece of fishing history. The condition is well used - but the authenticity is priceless.
