Signed original drawing of various figure studies by the early 20th century New York social realist artist Eugene Higgins. Original charcoal drawing on paper. Pencil signed lower right, and two labels on the back. We examined the art with a magnifying glass to determine that it is not a reproduction, but did not examine it out of the frame. Image size is 8.5 inches tall by 10.5 inches wide. Overall frame size is 16.75 inches tall by 18.75 inches wide. PROVENANCE: On the backing paper there is a label from the Zabriskie Gallery with the artist information and the date of the artwork 1910, and another label from the Goldfield Galleries of Los Angeles. We acquired this and a group of other works by Eugene Higgins at a live auction in Los Angeles that was from the collection of Betty and Alan Goldfield, the original founders of the highly regarded Goldfield Galleries in Los Angeles, California, during the mid-20th century, which specialized in early American art. Information about the Goldfield Galleries and Zabriskie Gallery can be found in the Archives of American art at the Smithsonian Institution. CONDITION: The art is in very good condition with a crease in the left side and a couple of minor stains, linen mat is in good condition, frame has scratches all around and a little bit of gap in the corner joints.
