This is a pair of exceptional Hopi silver overlay earrings by Gary and Elsie Yoyokie . The quality of the silverwork can be seen in the precisely cut designs in the upper layer of silver, and in the finely textured and deeply oxidized lower layer of silver. The slightly convex triangular earrings measure ¾ inch in length . The back is stamped STERLING and GY EY (the hallmark of Gary and ElsieYoyokie). Gary and Elsie Yoyokie are renowned husband and wife Hopi silversmiths. Gary trained at Hopicrafts under Wayne Sekaquaptewa, and later trained Elsie. A list of their awards would stretch as long as your arm. The are listed in major publications on Native American jewelry, including Jacka (1998), Wright (2000), and Schaaf (2003). Their work is sold by leading galleries, and is worn and collected worldwide by lovers of fine Hopi jewelry.
