This exotic one of a kind jade carving depicts one of China's most beloved mythological creatures, the Dragon Tortoise. I have seen dozens of these jade beasts but I have never seen one that comes close to this in style. The shape of the turtle shell is quite unique and the dragon is an imperial styled five toed dragon with a long serpentine neck. Further, this is a ritual vessel, though the inside is too small to be of much use for anything except ritual use. It is in remarkable condition, solid and stable with no cracks or chips. It measures about 6 x 1-3/4 x 5-3/4 inches and weighs a bit over 1 lb 11 oz. It is easily over 300 years old.
