Up for auction is an unusual "faux" mammoth "bone" ivory Japanese netsuke carved in the late 1900s. It features an oni ghost or demon mask with five rats or mice crawling all over it. The details are amazing! The mask is carved through and there is even a rat inside it with his back leg sticking out of a hole in the back. This is a very high quality netsuke since the mask, as well as eachof the rats, also feature genuine onyx stone inlaid eyes. The netsuke exhibits nice cross hatch graining and measures about 1.75" tall and 1.25" wide. It's in perfect condition with no cracks or chips. Comes from a non-smoking home with no pets.
