This example of the cameo carver's art is simply gorgeous: all the grandeur of a summer sunrise on West Virginia 's scenic Gauley River , captured forever in Fenton's historic Burmese glass. Numbered 115 of 375, this vase is limited to just 375 individually numbered pieces, this sandcarved Fenton Art Glass vase is made with a unique glass formula called Burmese, which was first developed in the 1880s. The formula contains pure gold, and the glass must be chilled and reheated during the manufacturing process to create the delicate pink blush. Educated at the Rhode Island School of Design, Kelsey Murphy is internationally renowned for her cameo glass creations. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass and the New Orleans Museum of Art as well as in our nation's White House. The Gauley River Sunrise vase is the result of a painstaking process. After the glass has been annealed, a special mask is taped to the surface of the vase. Using Kelsey Murphy's advanced "vignetting" technique, each vase is carefully sandcarved, by hand, using read more
