You are viewing a super rare early doubled sided Gulf Refining Company porcelain flanged sign, measures 22 ins long by 18 ins tall with a 2 in flange, has 5 holes for hanging, wtg is 7 3/4 lbs, very heavy ,has areas of restoration on edges ,the word gulf , g and s in gasoline , has stains and scratches, but overall a super great find, of a early gulf porcelain doubled sided flanged sign, the history of gasoilne being that oil was discovered in 1859, by Col Edwin L. Drake, in Titusville, Pa.,many oil company,s had their start in Pennsylvania, Tidewater oil, co, , now getty, Prue oil co, now Union oil Co. , ,John D, Rockefeller,s Standard oil of Cleveland, and later Pennzoil and Continental oil co, now Gulf Refining oil Company was formed in 1901, with partners, John H. galey and James M.
