Relisted due to nonpaying bidder. Thanks! I am told it is very rare to find one of these with the Afghanistan seal on it. I dont know because I collect WW2 items. This thing looks all original and could very possibly have the original German liner in it...I dont know enough about them. It is very dry with no rips and one small tear but the seam of thread that connects the liner has torn. This is w the little chunk of leather is missing. Headband looks like canvas. Looks like the original paint and all but like I said Im not an expert. I dont even know the correct type of helmet this is. It has all the hardware, rivets, chinstrap connections, everything seems like it has always been on this helmet even the afghan crest although I know this was added after the hemet made its way somehow from the Germans to the Afghans. Sorry if that has lead to any confusion! See the questions down below and bid accordingly. The question was asked if t is Brown paint under the green. I think t may be but it is hard to tell. is some additional info I received on the item: "Brown was the original Austrian color add this if so in body of description. Green paint looks like possible 1918 German overpaint. Germans used these helmets as well as chinstrap arrangement was much improved over 1916 German helmet.Approx. 300 thousand Austrian helmets produced but about 8 million German helmets 1916-18! " Also I do not see any padding in the liner. Just the leather and a white strap under it. Sorry all, I dont know what size this is but have tried out some measurments. If you want this done a specific way or want something measure a certain way please shoot me an email. From side to side from outside of brim to the other side is 9.25in at the widest point and front to back is 12.4in. The best measurement I could get for the inside or bowl of the helmet is about 9" L by 7" W. I didnt try to measue the liner because it is so shrunk and tight. I have had several questions about a stamp on the inside left brim. I have wiped the area and studied the helmet a bit more closely. T is green paint (the same as the outside) on the lower brim inside of the helmet. I think this paint may be covering the marking. The paint does however stop around the chin strap swivels and w the liner is...as though this had been repainted. When it was repainted (a long time ago who knows when) the painter did not remove the liner or chin strap. T is no paint on the leather at all but is does stop on the metal w the leather parts start. Kind of like painting your wall around the curtains I guess. The portion of the helmet inside abouve the liner looks like it may have been brown. The helmet is dirty and I dont want to "scrub" the thing too much or try to expose the stamp with any type of abbrasive. If it is that critical and I get several emails asking me to I will...if not I will leave it to its new owner. I will continue to look in different light, if anybody has a good technique to find the mark shoot me an email. Thanks and sorry I cant give more info!
