Large Rolled Plans for a Giant Scale Bristol Scout 1/4 Scale, 74 inch wing span, 62 inches long. Although the Bristol Scout first appeared in February, 1914, it was so light that its 80hp Gnome rotary engine gave it had an extraordinary speed of 97mph and an equally extraordinary ceiling of nearly 16,000 feet. Pilots loved the little machine because it was feathery light on the controls and a pleasure to fly. Probably the most famous Bristol Scout is that of Lanoe Hawker. While flying this Scout, Hawker shot down two enemy planes on the evening of 25 July 1915. Because of this action, and Hawker's unflagging enthusiasm, he was awarded the Victoria Cross, the first to be awarded for air-to-air combat. The war caught up with Hawker, though, and he fell in combat on 23 November 1916 while flying a DH2. His adversary was Manfred von Richtofen, and Lanoe Hawker was his 11th victory. These are 4 large Rolled Sheets (36 inches wide) of Full Size Plans and detailed drawings for scratch building this Legendary World War One Aircraft.
