RARE Gilbert & Sullivan D'Oyly Carte Opera Company Toby Jug Duke of Plaza Toro by Shorter & SonsMade in England. From the opera The Gondoliers. Vivid colors and shiny glaze. In excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is crazing (slight in my opinion) commensurate with age. Please see pictures. Approximately 5" tall.Gilbert & Sullivan Toby jugs were created by Shorter & Sons with permission from D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. Marketing began in 1949. They are approximately 5" tall and represented 5 different operas: The Mikado, The Gondoliers, The Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore, and The Yeoman of the Guard.Very hard to find.This miniature figurine is The Duke of Plaza-Toro from The Gondoliers.
