This is a Haida carved wood box signed by Clarence A. Wells, a native Canadian artist born in 1950 of the Gitsen Clan of the Tsimpshien, West Coast of Canada. The box is about 10" in diameter and about 3.25" high. The box is in very good condition, and has probably only been displayed, never used. Note on the pictures w the wood has been joined. I believe this is just a sign it was handmade, but I want to point it out. "Clarence A. Wells" signature is on the lower right edge of the lid. It appears to be a Haida mask in the center with a fish on either side. It does not appear to have an applied finish, but is in its natural state. It's a neat box to use to store other wonderful things, or just to display.
