Powered by Auction Hawk hand carved wooden santos with base 13" tall You are bidding on one hand carved, hand painted wooden Santos statue. These are very rare and highly collectible. The detail is just amazing! From the serene expression on his face to the muscle tone in his legs. T seems to have been multiple layers of paint on this throughout its life. This may be because these sacred Santos figures were often repainted to mark religious holidays or answered prayers. This is one way to try and trace back the origin and date of these statues which is difficult since early Santos are generally unsigned. The figure and center of the base are removable. The base has a square missing from the back most likely w it was secured to a mantel or alter, the figure then could be taken out and carried in religious processions. Both items from each hand are missing, very common with these figures as it is believed to be good luck when you remove a piece from a Santos statue. This would make a great addition to your home or a one of a kind gift to bless a loved ones new home. As with most older works of art t are condition issues with cracking and/or chipping.
