THE STORY OF ROTHSCHILD BIRD: This hand painted porcelain pattern was first created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe. Twelve different motifs portray a 19th century tale of Baroness Rothschild, who lost her necklace in the garden of her Vienna palace. Several days later if was found by a gardener who saw birds playing with it in a tree. That is the reason there is a necklace pictured hanging from tree branches in all 12 different bird scenes. There is also a version of each motif with out jewelry. Herend allows the artist to determine the quantity, colors and placement of the insects around each scene, making each piece in this pattern a one of a kind work of art. No two pieces of Rothschild Bird are exactly alike. read more
