This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in type 98 mountings. The blade is signed "Ishido Teruhide saku 石� �輝秀作", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period ca.1940 era made. Teruhide's real name is Ihara Kametaro, was born in 1902 in Saitama prefecture, made swords during WWll time period after the war as a gendai sword smith, listed in John Slough's book page 171. The blade is traditional hand forged, in old polish, shows light staines on surface but no rust and in excellent condition. The temper line is wavy gunome with choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep o-maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nicks, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The blade is mounted in army type 98 mountings, scabbard is metal scabbard no lacquer loss, no dent, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no loose, no cut also in good condition. The tsuba and seppa are matched number 12 stamped. The lock mechanism works fine. It came with blue/brown company grade sword tassel, no cut, no shrink and in mint condition. The blade measures 26+1/2" tip to the guard, 25+5/8" cutting edge, 1+1/8" width, 7.5mm thickness at the notch and 40" in mountings.
