This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed "Ishido Teruhide saku 石堂輝秀作", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period Ca. 1940 era made blade. Teruhide`s real name is Ihara Kametaro, was born in 1902, lived in Omiya city, Saitama prefecture, made swords as a Gendai smith, listed in John Slough`s book page 171. The blade is traditional hand forged, in old polish, shows fine scratches but no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome-choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is tight ko-itame hada , no openings, no blister and no forging flaws. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is glossy lacquered heavy metal scabbard, shows minor dent but no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose also in good condition. Lock mechanism works fine. Tsuba and seppa are matched owner`s name "Imai イマイ" marked. It measures 27+1/8" tip to the guard, 26+1/4" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 38+3/4" in mountings.
