The L. G. Wright Glass Co. of New Martinsville, West Virginia sold this Caramel Slag Owl Covered Dish (mold #80-10) around 1982. Of all the covered 5" animal dishes produced by Wright, this is one of the more difficult ones to find. The Wright factory closed in 1999. Wright did not make their own glass but contracted companies such as Westmoreland and Fenton to make their items for them. For this piece, it is very likely that Westmoreland make it. Our book: Slag & Marble Glass, The Prominent Years, 1959-1985 (N. Taves & D. Jennings) shows it on page 127 with a value of $75-85. This piece is unmarked - very few of Wright's pieces were ever marked and none of the animal dishes were. It measures about 5.5" long.T is no damage of any kind. All items are packed with great care. Buyer pays actual shipping costs via US priority mail - we do not charge any sort of handling or packing fees. Multiple purchases can be combined to save on shipping costs whenever possible. Insurance is optional but strongly recommended - seller is not responsible for lost or damaged items that are not insured. Personal checks are also accepted, however, item will be held at least 15 days for check to clear. Indiana residents must add 7% sales tax. Thanks! The free listing tool.
