Large ANTIQUE Flemish HORSE Bell Bronze Harness or Sleigh Bell Ã,Â- Folk Art Horse This large, decorative antique horse bell was discovered in Northern Holland. The bronze bell was likely an ornate harness or sleigh bell. Dating from the mid to late 19th C. the bell features a wonderful embossed motif of horses, the design is very decorative and unusual. Two large horses, one on each side of the bell embellish the lower half of the piece, while the top is decorated with a series of 4 smaller images of horses. The images have a charming, folk art or primitive appearance. The bronze bell is surprisingly heavy for its size; it is a very sturdy and substantial object. Over the century it has aged and worn and shows signs of use and wear. There are several small old stress cracks from use and age typical of a piece of this vintage (see photo details), yet the bell remains fully functional and emits a wonderful deep tone when shaken.
