You are bidding on a wonderful antique Victorian centerpiece/compote. The dramatic shallow glass bowl is a ruby red cut to clear with scalloped edges at the top. Each scallop is cut with fine detail (see closeup photo). The bowl measures 10 5/8" in diameter and stands 3 1/2" tall. It is in excellent condition, no chips or cracks. The bowl is raised on an elaborate silverplate pedestal base. The base is about 6" wide at the bottom and features 3 majestic birds, one at each corner. It measures 9 1/4" tall. Three slender columns meet at the top and are attached to a round silver base that the bowl sits in. As you can see from the photo, the silver is tarnished but has a beautiful aged appearance. It has no dents or other damage. The bottom of the silver pedestal has a hallmark that identifies the maker as Thomas White. He operated in Sheffield England from 1872 - 1891. I acquired this interesting piece at an estate sale. If you have any information about this silversmith, I would love to hear from you. Please email me if you have any questions. GOOD LUCK!!
