This Marklin 451 G was mine in 1950, and is the first edition of this model, made from 1949-1954. It included a light on the boom, an adjustable boom using a crank to move it closer to or further away from the item that the magnet would pick up, and two control switch panels, which you connect together. The 4 buttons on one panel swing the crane left and right, and move the hook with the magnet up and down. The second panel controls the lights in the crane and boom, and the second one turns the magnet hanging from the hook off and on. Two additional switches can be used to control lights on your layout (lights in a station for example). Subsequent Marklin crane models did not have the boom light, the adjustable boom with a crank, and went to only 1 switch panel.Just back from my Marklin dealer who lubricated and checked everything, and it still works great. He also gave me a copy of the original instructions printed in October, 1949 in multi languages, and one of the Marklin Company names is listed as: "Marklin Bros. & Co., Manufacturers of High - Class Metal Toys, Goeppingen (Germany)". I don't recall ever knowing there were Marklin Brothers. There is no original box, as at age six I was not interested in keeping empty boxes.... Ships UPS ground. A great crane for your layout. Set it up in your freight yard with uncouplers and a read more
