An original very rare aqua soda bottle which measures approximately 9 1/2" tall which is embossed on the front Hennessy & Nolan / Albany / N.Y. and has the company initials on the back and most importantly is base embossed Made By John Matthews NY Pat June 11 1872. While I am familiar with the Matthews patented gravitating stopper I have never seen this particular patented closure on any other bottle which must of involved some sort of cap which when twisted tighten via the grooves at the neck in the molded glass. Condition - bottle was dug and has stain as shown and there is a defect at the lip which appears is a open bubble which I have pictured. A very rare bottle of which this is the only specimen I have ever seen.
