ZUNI BISON FETISH Artist: This fetish has been carved by master carver Russell Shack, who is Zuni. He is well known for his fetishes and his work has been published in Zuni Fetishes and Carvings on page 25. Mr. Shacks' work is easy to distinguish due to the intricatedly detailed etchings on each of his carvings. We have included a photo of Mr. Shack on this site. (Russel is a friend of ours, we've been to his place often. Real down to earth. Ryan) Materials: Mr. Shack used black marble for the body of the this nicely etched bison, and turqouise for its eyes. Size: 1 1/2 " long and 1 1/4" tall. This is an outstanding, beautiful piece, which has been signed by Russel. Please be sure to add me to your favorites list ! Traditional Background: Zuni tradition maintains that fetishes originated in the "time of beginning" when we humans climbed up from the shadowy netherworld into the sunshine of this one. Bison are associated with winter, especially snow. They are strong and live in large, mostly harmonious groups.
