CERAMIC ACOMA PUEBLO POTTERY by Earlene Antonio Dimensions: 5" Tall 7 1/2" Diameter 5" Wide at the Mouth This handpainted pot is a beautiful work of ceramic art by a registered tribal member of the Acoma Pueblo Indian Tribe. The bottom of the pot bears the artist's signature. This vessel is made of Acoma clay, from a secret source, is hard-fired, making durable lightweight walls that ring if tapped. The artist who created this piece used a mold to make this pottery so it is truly ceramic rather than produced by the more time-consuming "coil and scrape" method. The Acoma tribe still resides in its aboriginal location on a reservation of some 263,000 acres about an hour west of Albuquerque . Sky City , the tribe's main pueblo, sits atop a 400-foot mesa high above the surrounding plain. It vies with Taos and the village of Oraibi in Hopi for the title of oldest continuously inhabited place within the United States : this artist and her ancestors have lived in this pueblo looking out over the awesome landscape for at least one thousand years. Ceramicware tends to be less less expensive than handcoiled pottery of a similar size, so it is an excellent value especially for people who love the beautiful and traditional handpainted designs. We hope you enjoy this beautiful work of art! Happy bidding! DOMESTIC SHIPPING AND HANDLING read more
